THE DRIVE TO MARA
The Masai Mara is located about 260 kms from Nairobi and with the newly laid tarmac, the driving time is about 4 and a half hours. The drive is along the scenic Rift Valley and we also stop ate viewing point in the Rift Valley where you can take those memorable shots. Along the drive we also pass through acres and acres of barley fields and that will be an enjoyable drive. If your itinerary has Lake Nakuru before Masai Mara, there is another road which reaches Mara and its about 225 kms with a driving time of four hours. Some people also prefer flying from Nairobi to Mara and there are a few flights operating, and the same can be arranged if the client wishes. It is a 45-minute direct flight usually from Wilson Airport to Mara.
DURATION OF STAY AT THE MARA
The Masai Mara is a vast game park spread over 1566 sq. kms and has various interesting areas with varied habitat. And with two rivers, the Mara and Talek traversing through the park, there are various territories marks by the carnivores and the scores of herbivores too are distributed across the grasslands. In order to experience the park’s glory and enjoy the full scope of wildlife in the park, you need to stay at Masai Mara for a minimum of 4 days at least. This duration will allow you to have ample game drives for the length of your stay and allow you enough time to rest when you arrive at the park. Ideally we will need these many days to cover a variety of wild animals and birds, nature, the village, and the local Masai people. If you are a professional photographer, we recommend a longer stay, where in we would spend time tracking, following a certain, species or prides to get those awe-inspiring shots, that you always dreamt of.
